On Tuesday October 28th at approximately 2:00 pm, officers were at the Colonie Apartment Complex on Sweet Home Rd for a female armed with a knife and acting in a threatening manner. While on location officers made contact with the individual. During the encounter, the female suspect advanced toward officers while armed, resulting in an officer discharging their service weapon.
The suspect sustained injuries and was provided immediate medical aid at the scene by responding officers and emergency medical personnel. The suspect was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment in stable condition. No officers were injured during the incident.
The incident was captured on departmental body-worn cameras. In accordance with department policy, the District Attorney’s Office has been notified and will conduct a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The identity of the involved officer and the female suspect will be released at a later time, pending appropriate notifications and in accordance with investigative protocols.
The Amherst Police Department is committed to transparency and will work with the District Attorney’s Office to release additional information and videos as soon as the investigation allows.
