
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.04, down four cents from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.18. The New York State average is $3.13, down three cents from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.23. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
- Batavia – $3.14 (down 6 cents from last Monday)
- Buffalo – $3.16 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
- Rochester – $3.17 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline could reach the $3 mark for the first time in four years. Since last week, the national average has dropped four cents to $3.04. Local prices are sliding as well. Several factors are behind the drop, including falling crude oil prices, lower gasoline demand, and cheaper winter-blend gas at the pump.
This morning oil is trading in the $57-$61 range per barrel. According to the Energy Information Administration, gas demand fell from 8.91 million barrels per day last week to 8.45 million. In addition, seasonal storm activity in the tropics has not had an impact on gas refineries. If these trends continue, motorists will likely continue to see pump prices fall.
Diesel prices are stable. The national average $3.62 – down 3 cents from last week. The New York average is $3.87, no change from last week.
When it comes to EV charging, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remain steady. Today’s national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stands at 36 cents. New York’s rate is 36 cents. The state has approximately 12,829 chargers. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles.
To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible.
