Hello Metalheads! This is John back with an early EP review for you. Leylines is releasing their second EP on October 24, 2025, it is called Sepulchral. The EP is being released via Silent Pendulum Records who continue to have release after release of good quality metal.
Leylines have this very unique back breaking, spastic, heavy and downright technical sound. The choppy, angular and dissonant guitar lines combined with the unison double bass make it super angry and dense. Plus the time signature switches and odd accents utilized all over the place make this a dizzying listen! Even just trying to follow the cymbal or snare hits make it extremely hard to headbang before getting a few listens through. Their brand of organized chaos is so awesome to appreciate once figured out! Don’t let the math sound intimidate you on first listen, just embrace the technical chaos and find the groove. That’s my best advice for this EP!
My favorite track on Sepulchral is Aberration. It starts with super chuggy section with this super cool synth ambient chord over top of it. My favorite part of the whole track is around the 2:16 mark where they are doing a slowed down breakdown with dissonant guitar lines breaking up the chugs. Then out of nowhere they drop the distortion on the guitar and have him play a off beat disorienting line between beats played by everyone. That peaks my interest every single time I listen to the track.
Overall on my personal scale I would give this EP a 9/10. Leylines continue their progressive math inspired deathcore sound in a really good way. I feel like they really leaned into heavier writing with adding more atmospheric effects and keyboard parts in this effort. This will be in my rotation for a while! As always don’t forget to stream, listen and buy their music!
