Death metal legends Internal Bleeding are releasing their latest album “Settle All Scores”this Friday October 17th. It’s their first album since “Corrupting Influence” from 2018. Since the early 90’s Internal Bleeding has been a highly influential (and highly under appreciated) death metal band. Original guitarist Chris Pervelis has kept this band going (upon others) since then. He’s survived tragedies and hardships to keep his band afloat, which is highly inspiring. Many artists would throw in the towel after losing a key member (RIP Bill Tolley). In my honest opinion, they still proceeded to write solid music post Tolley (including a sick final track with his drum work “Final Justice”). The previous album I think is highly overlooked in their impressive body of work. It has some solid grooves, great rhythms and drum work, and is very engaging. A huge return for a band like Internal Bleeding. Now, onto the present.

The godfather of slam himself Pervelis has decided it’s time to “Settle All Scores”. Their classic groove, chugging rhythms and relentless New York brutality is all over the record. Not many bands can unite metal heads of many sub genres but IB always has. While it always has had a slam sound, there’s always been a noticeable hardcore influence. That’s not a bad thing by any means. There’s even some moments of melody to change it up. Sickening gutturals as expected but mixed up with some shouts and a plethora of guest vocalists. Some of them include past vocalists in the band, making this new record a family affair. It’s worth noting the band shifted to Maggot Stomp on this new album. The guest vocals are provided by Sherwood Webber of Skinless, Mikey Petroski of Never Ending Game, and former Internal Bleeding vocalists Joe Marchese, Jay Lowe, and Frank Rini.

INTERNAL BLEEDING:

Steve Worley – vocals

Chris McCarthy – rhythm guitar, backing vocals

Chris Pervelis – lead/rhythm guitar

Kyle Eddy – drums

Ryan Giordano – bass

What you need is a tight rhythm section. You can have a great vocalist and some great guitar leads, but in the end aren’t much without good rhythm. Eddy and Giordano have a real tight chemistry that holds this legendary band together on this upcoming album. They provide a solid backbone for the band.

How good this is album? It’s solid. The first few albums are their most influential between the legendary “Voracious Contempt” and “Extinction Of Benevolence”. The next four were solid as well but can’t deny the impact of their debut especially. It’s a great continuing point from “Corrupting Influence” showing the long standing band still has tricks up their sleeve. Over 8 tracks they don’t overstay their welcome and know their role. The album doesn’t drag on by any means. They aren’t ready to lie down in fact quite the opposite. They have a few shows lined up in November supporting the album release.

The Long Island natives show why they’re one of the best in the game. “Settle All Scores” showcases why New York death metal is superior. You can support the band at the links below and put in a preorder.
