Hello Metalheads! This is John back with another album review! This time I bring to you the latest masterpiece from my favorite band of all time: Between The Buried And Me(commonly referred to as btbam). The Blue Nowhere is btbam’s latest album and it was released on September 12, 2025 via Inside Out Music and it is as great as everything always is from btbam to say the least.

I’m not quite sure how btbam consistently write wild, heavy and downright weird and wacky music. But every time they release their latest hour long composition it has their patented btbam trademark sound. While btbam retained their sound they are without one of their key pieces for the first time in 20 years. As many have reported over the last while now, Dustie Waring is no longer with the band after certain controversy. Even as a four piece they still pushed the boundaries of what they can do! I feel like this album is so unpredictable and features some of the best hair pin turns this band has ever produced!

I already did a quick piece on Absent Thereafter and just how crazy and wild that track is, which you can find here: That was a huge taste of what was to come with just how amazing this album is. Are there parts that could be heavier? Of course, but btbam still manages to create all of their music with a flow and goal in mind and sometimes they need a nice catchy or powerful chorus! There are no dead moments which let my mind wander or look for other things.

The peak of this album is Psychomanteum, the tracks starts off with this blistering 1:21 opening assault that would make any btbam fan smile from ear to ear. It reminds me a lot of their work from the Colors or even earlier work. The breakdown at 2:42 might be the single heaviest thing they have done in years. They do a quick setup before quickly taking a slight step backwards and slamming it back down! This whole track goes between heavy as all shit, demented harmonies and an absolutely melodic chorus. The last couple of minutes of Beautifully Human also has an almost somber or sad feeling to it. The way they finished this album feels so complete, this is a huge contrast to Color II their previous release. To me Human is Hell had a real rushed abrupt ending that I could never shake!

Lastly to cap off this album The Blue Nowhere and Beautifully Human are two beautiful tracks. I didn’t want to use the word in the final track but that’s the only way I can think to describe the feeling. Quite a few times across their career btbam have created these moments or passages that are beautiful(e.g., the chorus in Sun of Nothing or the ending of The Grid), but not whole tracks like this! The title track just has this almost longing feeling to the whole track that gives my heartstrings a tug.

Between the Buried and Me continues to push their sound in ways that most didn’t think possible. I watched a reaction video of Key of Geebz on YouTube watching Absent Thereafter and his quote to sum it up was “Only btbam can get away with doing this in their music and it’s great!” This album is yet another notch in btbam’s belt of amazing releases. The Blue Nowhere gets a 10/10 without a single doubt as I’m sure most btfam(fans of btbam) would agree with me! As always don’t forget to listen, stream and of course buy this album if you so choose.
