Blackened death band Visitant has released their debut album “Rubidium”. I’ve been looking forward to this release for quite some time and it was worth the late. If you know me, I can’t stand the vast majority of black metal. But when bands make it more artistic, weird and genre bending…..I’m all in. Imperial Triumphant and Blackbraid, so to speak. Here though, we have Visitant. They add a little bit of death metal…some keyboards, singing and acoustic guitar on occasion? I was interested in this by the hard work of Chelsea, their vocalist. I’ve followed her journey since her days in Accursed Creator. She has a strong powerful voice and I immediately became a fan. It’s matured over time starting Voorath (RIP Josh <3) and the whole band has been working their ass off on this. All while hustling vocal features, photography and working while going on tours? Needless to say I respect and admire her work ethic on all of her endeavors. She hasn’t stopped pushing this album and god damn I’m excited to post about it.
Matt Brown of Demon King (ex Enfold Darkness) guest shreds on the first track “Unworldly”. I was already a fan, but seeing this journey musically come together is wild. Let’s hit the gas pedal. It’s a simple, effective 7 track 33 minute offering. Songs aren’t condensed but effectively mapped out and don’t drag. It’s all put together in a nice packaged called “Rubidium”. Nice melodic riffs, yet still extreme metal heavy and very ethereal/atmospheric. The track layering is so well done, and says a lot from a guy who loves layered sound (my favorite band Opeth excels at that). Chelsea’s multiple array of screams and growls on top of singing takes you to another world. While she primarily growls and shrieks, the singing (beautifully) has its haunting moments and used intelligently.

Oh, they happened to get signed to Exitus Stratagem Records. How much this band got done and cool stuff they’ve done is awesome. The powerful rhythmic presence in Vistant will keep this beast going. The drum work is phenomenal and the bass is tasty. A metalhead into extreme music should appreciate this debut album. It has its artistic moments with melodic riffs, solos and said beautiful singing….dont expect constant brutality. It’s so well done it makes the heavy parts even heavier, and the melodic sections prettier. It helps creates mood and emotion every second you listen to their music.
“Rubidium” was well worth the wait and worth my time checking in on their progress. Visitant is a band with a lot of potential and unique in the scene. Female vocalists are awesome ala Chaney Crabb who growl and sing. But, you have to be effective and talented. I have my favorites and my other is Mallika (Emasculator, Unfathomable Ruination, ex Abnormality) with her dry Corpsegrinder esque voice. Needless to say after listening to this record a few times over, Chelsea has crept onto my favorite female vocalists right now. She can do the heavy (and nice range) real well while having a solid singing voice. The “female fronted”band tag is bullshit and terrible way to promote a band. I support women in music and especially extreme music that’s male dominated. The band really delivered on their debut and have a huge mountain to climb to put out material better than this next time out.
