The latest Deliquesce dropped recently and it’s a more unique piece of death metal your average human will credit it for. I’m not saying it’s crazy like a Defeated Sanity album, but it’s genre blending and bending. While maintaining a classic 90’s brutal death metal sound and production, it peaks a lot of interest in a few ways. It gets rather technical at times (Deeds of Flesh esque crazy), a little dissonant and creepy, and by god there’s a ton of rhythm and speed changes. It’s not very consistent and switches between these main death metal styles, for the most part. They have a couple tricks up their sleeve which really works to their advantage. If you like your DM consistent and palatable, this won’t be for you.

Vocally, it’s also a blender. It’s got lows, mids and some higher shrieks. And, there’s some shouts on occasion. Blood curdling, brutal and unpredictable. The right styles on the right parts and not one boring song vocally speaking. Energetic takes and rather refreshing. I dig diversity and the vocal talent on this record shines bright. I prefer my lows and gurgles, but a diverse vocal palette is a huge plus when done well. There’s also some brutal vocal features from Sanguisugabogg, Disentomb and Threshold.

The riffs are well….insane. There’s some great rhythms and then some crazy ass fills. It’s choked full of speed and groove that is pretty relentless. Theres some really awesome guitar leads for extra flavor, Very entertaining and very crushing. Really nice guitar tone considering the couple different sub genre styles on the new album. As previously stated the rhythms are crazy and crushing. It’s a well mixed record considering how raw and heavy it is, and gets rather chaotic and technical at times.

All of this into a 40+ minute bundle of death metal sub genre brutality. This record will soon fade away with the ever flowing river of death metal and similar styled releases. Keep listening to this underground gem and spread the word. This project keeps getting better and better and was nice to see they had a new album. “Saviour/Enslaver” was a reminder they do exist and quite possibly their finest hour.
