Hello Metalheads! This is John bringing you news about my all time favorite band Between the Buried and Me(Btbam)! They released their latest single called Absent Thereafter from their upcoming album The Blue Nowhere. Their new album comes out in September 12, 2025 and I couldn’t be more excited.
This new track, as in typical Btbam fashion, is ALL over the place. It all kinds of different genres that are influencing this chaotic progressive death metal track. There are boogie woogie, jazz, county and blues blended with heavy elements. This is such a contrast from the first single they debuted, Things We Tell Ourselves In The Dark, which is a super funky and chill track.
My favorite park of the track is the breakdown towards the end of the track. It has such a long build up and transformation. It starts off as this almost blues country riff with double bass on the drums as contrast. Then Paul Waggoner Rips a guitar solo over top of that, then in the middle of the solo it turns into the western groove that is reminiscent of the Family Feud theme. Then it turns into this dissonant heavy chuggy front riff with the backside being a country riff again.
Btbam has never ceased to amaze me and this just further cements that. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album and get my thoughts organized!
