Normally, giving up nine runs is not a good sign for a baseball team — at any level. But when you score 21 of your own, nine runs doesn’t seem so significant.
The Niagara Falls Americans bats came to life Friday night in Geneva, as the team got 13 hits en route to a rout of the home team Red Wings.
The Americans made a statement immediately, scoring six runs before Geneva even got to bat. They added another statement inning with five runs in the fourth — plus another three in the seventh and four in the eighth. The only innings the Americans didn’t score in were the second and ninth.
The Red Wings tried to keep pace, scoring four in the and two in the sixth. But when you’re opponent puts up a score that most would think is a football score, it’s really hard to keep up.
Hopefully the Americans saved some offence because they’re hosting a doubleheader on Saturday vs. the Elmira Pioneers. Game One starts at 4 p.m.
