Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Luis Gonzalez, Jr., 25, of Buffalo, was arraigned yesterday morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on an indictment charging him with one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree (Class “C” felony). Kitrina Udrea, 22, of Buffalo, was arraigned on Friday morning before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case. She was also indicted on one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree.

The defendants are accused of recklessly causing the death of their infant daughter. It is alleged that on Friday, July 7, 2023, at approximately 2:42 p.m., police and paramedics responded to an apartment on the 2000 block of William Street in the Town of Cheektowaga after receiving a 911 call for an unresponsive child. The victim, 2 ½-month-old Londyn Gonzalez, was transported by ambulance to Oishei Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Gonzalez and Udrea remain held on bail set at $250,000 cash or bond. Both defendants are scheduled to return before Judge DiTullio for a pre-trial conference on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. 

If convicted of the charge, Udrea and Gonzalez face a maximum sentence of 5 to 15 years in prison.   

DA Keane commends Detective Kevin Schmidt, Lieutenant Justin Haag, Detective Mark Fatta, and Detective James Genson of the Cheektowaga Police Department and members of the Doyle Fire Company for their work in this investigation.  

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Rebecca L. Schnirel of the Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Alexander J. Trunfio of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
