Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Raymond J. Torres, 36, of no permanent address, was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi to 19 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. He was sentenced today as a second violent felony offender.

On Thursday, September 19, 2024, at approximately 4:22 a.m., the defendant shot the victim with an illegal gun in the vicinity of 7th and Jersey streets in the City of Buffalo. The victim, 35-year-old Travis A. Martin, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he was later pronounced dead.

In February 2025, Torres pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felony). The defendant entered the plea to the charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.

DA Keane commends Detective Judy Walker and Detective Adam Stephany of the Buffalo Police Department for their work on this case.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Justin H. Caldwell of the Homicide Bureau.
