
WHEATFIELD — On April 10th, 2025 at around 0946 hours, Deputies from The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office observed a subject, Daniel Couturiaux, a 53 year old male from Wheatfield, outside of his residence. Deputies had information that Couturiaux had two active felony warrants out of Daytona Beach Police Department located in Volusia County, Florida. Deputies attempted to take Couturiaux into custody outside his residence. Couturiaux subsequently ignored commands and fled from Deputies. A Taser was deployed but was unsuccessful in immobilizing Couturiaux.
Couturiaux then barricaded himself inside the residence and refused commands to exit. The Niagara County Emergency Response Team was activated and responded to the scene. After a lengthy period of time, Couturiaux and a second resident – Rebecca Smith, a 56 year old female from Wheatfield, exited the residence and were taken into custody. Couturiaux and Smith were charged with PL 195.05-Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, A Misdemeanor. Smith was issued an appearance ticket and was released. Couturiaux was transported to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment and extradition to Volusia County.
