Hello Metalheads! This is John back with another album review! This time I bring to you Demonstration of Post Apocalyptic Warfare by Orbital Gate. This album was released on March 28th, 2025 and is a brutal slam death metal work. This entire album is a concept album about the video game Fallout: New Vegas.
The first time I heard about this band was last year after listening to Resuscitate’s latest album(which I reviewed here on this site). Resuscitate is Eva Van Dyne’s one man band that is progressive metal. So with Resuscitate being so good I naturally had to check out her other project(Orbital Gate). This is a one person project too, I actually didn’t realize this until I went to do some research on this album! Eva is a real beast when it comes to putting out quality album after album.
Normally Slam or Brutal variations of death metal isn’t necessarily in my normal albums I check out of enjoy to be very honest. But I will always give any music a chance! This new album Orbital Gate came out with is fantastic! The riffs are caveman-esque that make anyone want to headbang, the drumming is outrageously fast all the time and the vocals are great too. The song Thuggin’ 38 featuring members of Peeling Flesh was getting a ton of buzz as a teaser track to this album. Its heavy, brutal and pretty damn melodic in certain areas. Really a great representation of this album.
Overriding the Neurocomputational Matrix was one of the songs that really caught my ear in the first listen due to the hilarious sample they used. It’s of a robot saying “Hi there! The disappointment you are about to experience, DELIGHTS me!” This caught me off guard and made me laugh very hard. The track itself is probably my favorite on this album.
Psycho Induced Massacre also had a very funny sample, but this one was in the middle of the track. It of a guy saying “I’m the scariest motha fucka you ever gonna meet, I’m cook cook bitch, maybe I’ll make you dinner sometime.” This is very reminiscent of some of the wild things that psychos say in the Borderlands series, which is my favorite and I know Eva likes very much! This is the shortest but sweetest track on the album. Such a heavy and quality filled track from start to finish.
So overall I would give this album a 9/10! As I said before this is not in my typical sub-genre preference, but it’s great. Heavy for the sake of being heavy riffs, with technical drumming and absolutely brutal vocals all wrapped up in a great package. I hope Eva keeps writing music for us to digest in whatever project she wants to, she is two for two in the last two albums I have checked out. As always don’t forget to listen, stream and of course but the music you love like myself. Links to streaming and social will be listed down below!
