New Jersey’s Chronepsis is releasing their debut album “Weight Of Eternity” on Friday April 4th. The melodic technical death metal quintet has their album streaming right here. I’m good friends with the band’s drummer Eric and he was giving me all sorts of pre production goodies along the way. Funny enough I saw the band in our promo emails and immediately starred it. For the people that long for an Arsis update, this band definitely fills that void. The band is heavy, unlike a good amount of tech bands in the modern age.

The album is filled with heavy, melodic, crazy riffs and beautiful solos. The rhythms are nasty, and the drums easily keep up with this demanding music. It never takes its foot off the gas pedal and constantly on it. Yet, it still feels like there’s moments to breathe between the fast sections. The vocals are varied and all over the place, never sounding dull.

This record is for any fan of death metal and anyone that appreciates serious talent. I’m not saying it’s the best thing since Necrophagist and Spawn of Possession (that’s Retromorphosis) but hot damn is this solid. It’s a rare feat of brutality with melodic and impressive musicianship. The other problem with modern tech bands is there’s no soul, and Chronepsis has plenty of that. While the whole band is shredding their ass off, it still holds grooves and heavy ones at that. It’s not a mish mash of soulless shred you can fall asleep too. This is their mark in death metal and it’s quite a good start.

They’ve already opened on the decibel magazine tour with Mayhem and Imperial Triumphant. If you live in New York City don’t sleep on catching the boys live this Saturday in Queens!
