
NORTH TONAWANDA – James “Jamie” Muehlbauer, a retired North Tonawanda Police Lieutenant with over two decades of dedicated service to the community, has officially announced his candidacy for 1st Ward Alderman. With a distinguished career in law enforcement, a strong record of securing funding for the city, and a deep commitment to public safety and community service, Muehlbauer is ready to bring his leadership to City Hall.
“As someone who has spent nearly their entire career serving and protecting North Tonawanda, I understand the needs of our community,” said Muehlbauer. “I’ve worked to enhance public safety, secure vital resources, and train the next generation of officers. Now, I’m ready to bring that experience to city government and work for the residents of the 1st Ward.”
Muehlbauer’s law enforcement career began with his training at the New York State Park Police Academy in Albany, New York, where he earned his Police Officer Certification in 2000 through the New York State Police Residential Academy. He went on to serve with the New York State Park Police in Niagara Falls from 1997 to 2002, before joining the North Tonawanda Police Department.
Muehlbauer served with the North Tonawanda Police Department for over 22 years, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant after a distinguished career marked by a dedication to excellence. Throughout his tenure, he played a key role in securing over $500,000 in grant funding to enhance public safety initiatives across the city. Muehlbauer took on several critical roles within the department, including Field Training Officer, SWAT Team Member, Niagara County Drug Task Force Member, Training Lieutenant, and eleven years as a detective.
His leadership and commitment to service earned him multiple prestigious awards and commendations, including the North Tonawanda Police Distinguished Service Award, the North Tonawanda Police Officer of the Year Award, and the North Tonawanda Police Chief’s Award for Job Excellence in 2024.
Today, Muehlbauer is the owner of a licensed private investigation and security consulting firm based in North Tonawanda.
Beyond his professional achievements, Muehlbauer is a devoted husband to Jolynn and a loving father to Tyler. His family values fuel his commitment to addressing the concerns of local families. His platform is centered on fiscal responsibility, ensuring that taxpayers’ money is used effectively, as well as supporting first responders, enhancing city services, and fostering economic development that provides long-term benefits for all residents.
“I believe in strong, common-sense leadership that prioritizes the safety and well-being of our community,” Muehlbauer added. “As Alderman, I’ll work to ensure our tax dollars are used wisely, our neighborhoods remain safe, and our city continues to move forward.”
