TONAWANDA — The first meeting of the Sumitomo Rubber Plant Closure Task Force (“Task Force”) is scheduled to be held Monday, Jan. 27 at 11am at the Town of Tonawanda Wastewater Treatment Facility, located at 750 Two Mile Creek Road, Tonawanda, NY 14150.
Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz signed an executive order empaneling the Task Force on Dec. 11, 2024:

There are 11 official members of the Task Force representing the following entities:
- Erie County Executive’s Office
- Empire State Development
- Workforce Buffalo
- Erie County Industrial Development Agency
- Town of Tonawanda
- New York State Department of Labor
- United Steelworkers
- Buffalo Central Labor Council
- Invest Buffalo Niagara
- Buffalo Niagara Partnership
- National Grid
Invitations were also extended to other stakeholders who are not formal members of the Task Force.
The opening of the meeting will include introductions, present an overview of Erie County actions to date, and provide media availability. The remainder of the meeting will be a working session to collaboratively address the three goals of the Task Force:
- The displaced workers
- The future of the property
- Matters which may arise related to these objectives through collaborative conversation
