The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.07, up one cent from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.07. The New York State average is $3.14, up two cents from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.30. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
• Batavia – $3.18 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
• Buffalo – $3.11 (no change from last Monday)
• Rochester – $3.22 (no change from last Monday)
The national average for a gallon of gasoline is mostly stuck in neutral, moving only a cent since last week. Looking back at 2024, the high point for the national average was $3.67 on April 19, and the low was $3.01 on December 10. If the national average follows seasonal norms, it will probably waffle up and down by a few cents for the next two months. According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand rose last week while total domestic stocks increased by more than seven million barrels. This morning, oil prices range from $77 to $82 per barrel. For drivers who use diesel fuel, the national average price for diesel is $3.55, up four cents from last Monday. The New York average is $3.89, up five cents from last Monday.
The EIA also reports that the United States produced more crude oil than any other nation from 2018-2023, and although 2024’s data is still being analyzed it is likely to show the U.S. is still in the lead. Crude oil production in the U.S. averaged 12.9 million barrels daily in 2023, breaking the previous U.S. and global record of 12.3 million barrels daily in 2019. The EIA says the 2023 oil production record is unlikely to be broken by another country anytime soon.
When it comes to EV charging, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remain steady. Today’s national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained at 34 cents, the same amount for almost 5 months. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles.
