A torrential rainfall in Niagara Falls just hours before the first home game of the city’s new baseball team did not dampen the spirits of fans.

It did, however, drench the field at Sal Maglie Stadium. Ground crews worked hard to get the field ready to play and eventually it was determined that it was suitable for action.

Following opening ceremonies, the Niagara Falls Americans took an early 3-0 first-inning lead against the Batavia Muckdogs. Unfortunately for the home crowd, the visiting team came back … and then some, winning 16-6 in the end.

The Americans travel to Jamestown today followed by a home double header on Sunday.
