Erie County Sheriff John Garcia reports two members of the Jail Management Division were injured Tuesday in two separate incidents.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., an incarcerated individual at the Erie County Holding Center stole a sandwich from the food tray. A deputy confronted the incarcerated individual and told him to return the sandwich. An altercation ensued, resulting in the deputy suffering injuries to his neck and shoulder. The deputy was taken to ECMC for evaluation. The investigation is ongoing.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., an incarcerated individual at the Erie County Correctional Facility refused to lock in his cell. After being instructed to do so, the incarcerated individual defied in the instruction and began throwing punches at two corrections officers. One officer was struck by one of the punches. As a result of the altercation, the officer was evaluated at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for head and knee injuries. The incarcerated individual was charged with 2nd degree Assault and 2nd degree Obstructing Governmental Administration.
