The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) is holding a series of public input sessions and online poll in order to gather public input on a potential expansion of Metro Rail into Amherst and Tonawanda.

The NFTA-Metro Transit Expansion Project would expand light-rail or rapid bus transit service from University Station, along Kenmore Avenue, Niagara Falls Boulevard, Maple Road, Sweet Home Road, through the University at Buffalo North Campus to Audubon Parkway and I-990. The Project calls for:

  • Light-rail or rapid bus transit service connecting Buffalo to Amherst, Tonawanda, and the UB North Campus
  • Enhanced access to a fast, reliable, safe, and convenient transit option
  • Dedicated stations with improved rider, pedestrian, and bike amenities, park and ride options, sidewalks and lighting, and roadway safety features

The goals are to better link communities, better serve existing riders, including riders that rely on transit, attract new riders, provide enhanced transportation access to jobs, schools, and healthcare, and support regional economic growth.

The NFTA will be holding a series of drop-in listening sessions. The public many attend or drop-in to a listening session at any time during the event. There will not be a scheduled presentation. Project staff will be available to answer questions about the Project.
