Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz was elected to a fourth term Tuesday, handily defeating GOP candidate Chrissy Casilio, 58 percent to 41 percent.

Poloncarz, who served as Erie County comptroller prior to his election as executive 12 years ago, has said that he will not run for re-election after concluding his upcoming term.

The race had many negative moments with Casilio and her supporters questioning Poloncarz’ response to the 2022 blizzard, his take on migrant housing in Erie County and a claim that he abused a former girlfriend. Poloncarz and his supporters, meanwhile, pointed to numerous since-deleted posts on X (formerly Twitter) from Casilio including conspiracies about the 2020 election and COVID-19.

On X, Poloncarz posted after his win that “the best is yet to come.”
