AMHERST- The Amherst Police Department is investigating a traffic accident involving a school bus on the I-290 eastbound between Harlem Rd and Main St. There are injuries to the occupants of the bus that at this time appear to be non-life threatening. The injured were treated at the scene by Snyder Fire Department, Twin City Ambulance Co., and AMR and they are being transported to ECMC and Childrens Hospital. The accident is being investigated by the Amherst Police Department Accident Investigation Unit. The Amherst Police Department is requesting people avoid the 1290 eastbound and the Sheridan and Harlem area at this time. Anyone who witnessed the accident or may have video of the incident are asked to contact the Amherst Police Accident Investigation Unit at 689-1355. There will be no additional information released at this time.

The injury accident on the I-290 eastbound which occurred at 07:42 am on October 20th is still under investigation by the Amherst Police Accident investigation unit. The accident involved a pick up truck and a First Student Bus transporting five students who were going to the Cantalician Center in Cheektowaga. All five students were transported to Ŏishei Children’s Hospital for evaluation. The names and ages of the students will not be released but their families have all been notified. The driver of the bus was evaluated at the scene and the aid on the bus was transported to ECMC with serious injuries. The Amherst Police Department would like to thank Snyder Fire Co, Twin City Ambulance Co, and AMR for their assistance and treatment of the victims at the scene. New York State Dept of Transportation also assisted with traffic control at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was also evaluated at the scene but not transported to the hospital. The identity of the injured bus aide is not being released at this time so that proper notifications can be made. The accident investigation unit is once again requesting anyone who witnessed the accident or may have video of the accident to please contact the unit at 689-1355. There will be no additional details released at this time. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
