On September 30, 2023, at 7:54 A.M., Troopers out of SP Clarence responded to a collision involving three vehicles on State Route 5 in the town of Newstead.
Investigation determined that a 2011 Kia and a 2017 Chevrolet were traveling east bound on State Route 5. The Kia stopped to turn into a driveway and the Chevrolet struck the rear of the Kia. The Chevrolet then crossed the center line striking a 2019 Honda head-on. The 18-year-old operator of the Kia was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center for serious injuries. The operator of the Honda, Keith C. Wagner, 54 of Rochester, NY was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 18-year-old operator of the Kia was not wearing a seat belt.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
