WHEATFIELD – On Friday, September 15th, 2023 at 16:06 hours, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a property damage accident on Niagara Road just east of Niagara Falls Boulevard in Town of Wheatfield. Investigation at the scene showed that a 2019 Ford Super Duty dump truck towing a trailer was eastbound on Niagara Road when the mini excavator being transported on the trailer struck the overhead CSX rail bridge that crosses Niagara Road. Following contact with the rail bridge, the mini excavator was partially dismounted from the trailer, coming to rest in the roadway. The rail bridge also sustained damage from contact with the mini excavator. Niagara Road was closed to traffic for a period of time while efforts were underway to clear the damaged equipment and debris. No injuries were reported.
The driver of the 2019 Ford, identified as 37 year-old Nicholas R. Green of Niagara Falls, was cited for Operating Out of Class, Operating a Trailer without a License Plate Affixed and Operating an Uninspected Trailer.
