Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 29-year-old Savon R. Stewart of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Samuel P. Davis on one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony).

It is alleged that on Monday, August 7, 2023, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Buffalo Police officers responded to an apartment complex on the 3400 block of Main Street in the City of Buffalo after receiving a 911 call. Officers found the victim, a 37-year-old woman, deceased inside of her apartment. The defendant is accused of intentionally causing her death by beating and stabbing the victim.

Stewart is scheduled to return on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. He was held without bail.

If convicted of the charge, Stewart faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends Detectives Thomas Nunan, Jennifer Zanghi, Scott Malec, Mark White and Sgt. Keith Fitzner of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Chief Gary W. Hackbush and Assistant District Attorney Rebecca L. Schnirel of the Homicide Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
