Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 21-year-old Teiyahna Bivens of Buffalo was arraigned yesterday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Debra Givens on one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felony).

It is alleged that on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the defendant stabbed the victim, her boyfriend, in the chest. The crime occurred on in the area of Gerhardt Street and Northampton Street in the City of Buffalo. The victim, a 23-year-old Micqueal Rogers, died from the injury a short time later at ECMC.

Bivens is scheduled to return on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. for a pre-trial conference before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan. Judge Givens set bail at $200,000 cash, bond or partially secured surety bond.

If convicted of the charge, Bivens faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Rebecca L. Schnirel of the Homicide Unit.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
