LOCKPORT – A 43-year-old Lockport man is facing charges after an arrest attempt by a Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputy led to a scuffle and a broken arm.

According to a press release by NCSO, on July 23rd 2023, at approximately 1144 hours, The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police responded to a suspicious person call at the Dollar General on South Transit Rd, in the Town of Lockport. Responding Deputies and Troopers observed a male fitting the description of the suspicious male walking near a laundromat just north of Dollar General. The laundromat was located at 5905 South Transit Rd. The suspicious male was later identified as David D Jones, 43 years old from the City of Lockport.

Jones was recognized by the responding deputy as a suspect from a previous larceny from Rite-Aid on Lincoln Ave. Jones would not identify himself to the Deputy or Trooper. The Deputy attempted to take Jones into custody. Jones fought with the Deputy and Trooper. During the struggle with Jones, the Deputy’s arm was broken. The Deputy and Trooper were then able to take Jones into custody. Jones was transported to the Niagara County Jail to be identified. Jones was then charged with Assault 2nd for the injury to the Deputy, Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd and Resisting Arrest. The injured deputy was taken by South Lockport Fire Company ambulance to ECMC to be treated for his injuries.
