On July 1, 2023, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of SP Collins arrested Michael D. Buthy, 42 of Perrysburg, NY for Attempted Murder 1st degree (A Felony) and Reckless Endangerment 1st degree (D Felony).
On July 1, 2023, at 11:48 A.M., Troopers out of SP Collins and Cattaraugus County Deputies responded to a mental health call on Town Line Road in the town of Perrysburg. Buthy discharged multiple rounds from a long gun, including at responding officers. The Trooper returned fire with a Division Issued Patrol Rifle. No persons were struck in the exchange of gun fire. Buthy was taken into custody at 11:10 P.M. at the residence.
Buthy was transported to SP Collins for processing and subsequently arraigned at the town of Perrysburg Court. He was remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail with no bail.
In addition to NYSP units, units from the Cattaraugus Sheriff’s Department, Erie County Sheriff’s Department, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, Perrysburg VFD, Dayton VFD, South Dayton VFD, Gowanda VFD and the Cattaraugus District Attorney’s Office all provided significant assistance with this incident.
