MOOSIC, PA – A big inning fifth inning by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders doomed the Buffalo Bisons as they fell by a score of 7-3 at PNC Field on Saturday night.

Davis Schneider got the scoring started for the Herd in the top of the third inning when he hit a solo home run that gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead. This is Schneider’s 15th home run and 42nd RBI of the season, both of which lead the Bisons this year.

The RailRiders didn’t answer back until the bottom of the fifth inning when Ben Rortvedt had a bases loaded walk, scoring Michael Hermosillo from third base and tying the game at 1-1. Andres Chaparro gave Scranton/Wilkes-Barre their first lead of the night when he hit a grand slam over the left center wall, making the score 5-1.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added on some insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Rortvedt made it 6-1 when he singled on a line drive to center, scoring Brandon Lockridge. Chaparro made it a 7-1 game when he posted his fifth RBI of the night on a triple that scored Rortvedt.

The Bisons tried to chip away at the RailRiders’ lead in the top of the eighth inning as Wynton Bernard made it a 7-2 game with a bases loaded force out that scored Nathan Lukes. This is Bernard’s 31st RBI this season, which is good for second most in his 9-year MiLB career and only trails his 92 RBIs in the 2022 season.

Buffalo tried to make a last-minute rally in the top of the ninth as Lukes reached on a fielder’s choice which scored Jamie Ritchie to make the score 7-3 late in the game.

The Bisons and RailRiders will close out their six-game set on Sunday at PNC Field with a 1:05 scheduled first pitch. RHP Paxton Schultz gets the nod for the Bisons and RHP Randy Vasquez will be on the bump for the opposing RailRiders.
