Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 22-year-old Ryan M. Crawford of Buffalo was arraigned yesterday morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony).

It is alleged that on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at approximately 2:25 a.m., the defendant intentionally shot the victim with an illegal handgun on the 800 block of Bailey Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The victim, 38-year-old Duryll Anderson, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he later died from the injuries.

Crawford is scheduled to return on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. for a pre-trial conference before State Supreme Court Justice Debra Givens. He continues to be held without bail.

If convicted of the highest charge, Crawford faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad for their work in the investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ryan D. Haggerty of the Homicide Unit.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
