The Lockport Police Department has issued an update on Monday’s accident at the Lockport Caves and Underground Tours.

According to a post via the LPD’s Facebook page, the deceased passenger, Harshah Shah, was unable to be saved after life saving efforts were made onsite and he was pronounced dead on scene.

According to an obituary for Shah published today, Shah was 65 at the time of his death and had served as president of the Budget Host Inn in Niagara Falls for many years. 

Visitation for Shah will be held Thursday, June 15 from 10-11:30 AM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel.

Lockport Police also said that the overturned vessel was returned to its normal position today by Niagara County Emergency Management Personnel, Niagara County Tactical Rescue Team and Niagara County Underwater Recovery Team for further inspection.

The investigation into Monday’s incident remains ongoing at this time by LPD in conjunction with the Office of the New York State Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Marine’s Law Enforcement Division.
