BUFFALO – The dark side prevailed as the St. Paul Saints overpowered the Buffalo Bisons 8-3 on Star Wars Night Saturday night at Sahlen Field.

The Saints opened the scoring in the top of the second with Mark Contreras’ RBI single to right field, sending Matt Wallner home and making the score 1-0.

The Herd didn’t let the Saints keep their lead for long as Trevor Schwecke made the score 2-1 in the bottom of the second with a bases loaded single, knocking in Spencer Horwitz and Wynton Bernard. Schwecke’s first double of the season is good for his first two RBIs this year.

After the bullpens held both teams bats quiet for two innings, Wallner, Alex De Goti, and Jose Miranda rounded home off a Edouard Julien bases loaded double in the top of the fifth, 4-2.

Buffalo started chipping away at the Saints lead in the bottom of the sixth when Schwecke kept his good night at the plate going with another RBI, this time a single that brought Horwitz home and the score to 4-3. This marks Schwecke’s second multi-hit game this season with the Herd, both coming in this series against St. Paul.

St. Paul made it a two-run game in the top of the seventh inning with a Chris Williams single to second base, making the score 5-3 as Trevor Larnach rounded home.

De Goti padded the Saints lead in the top of the eight with a sharp double to left field that drove in Jair Camargo, 6-3. Larnach continued the scoring this inning for the Saints with a two-run home run to right field, 8-3.

The Bisons are set to close out this six-game set against St. Paul on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at Sahlen Field. RHP Casey Lawrence gets the starting nod for the Bisons while RHP Kenta Maeda looks to be on the mound for the opposing Saints.
