BUFFALO, NY—The Buffalo Bisons defeated the Syracuse Mets 6-5 at Sahlen Field on Thursday thanks to a walk-off single by Spencer Horwitz, his fourth hit of the night.

The Mets would be the first team to get the ball rolling offensively, as a Gary Sanchez solo home run put Syracuse ahead 1-0 in the top of the second inning.

The third inning saw Syracuse add to the lead, first with a Ronny Mauricio double that scored Jose Peraza and Lorenzo Cedrola to extend the lead to 3-0.

Later in the third, DJ Steward hit a two-RBI single to score Danny Mendick and Mauricio, ballooning the Syracuse lead to 5-0.

The five-run advantage for the Mets would be short-lived, as a third inning Horwitz double would score Davis Schneider and put the Herd on the board, 5-1.

An RBI-groundout by Wynton Bernard would help Buffalo cut into the lead and make the score 5-2 heading into the fourth inning.

Buffalo’s bullpen stifled the Syracuse offense, allowing zero runs and only two hits over the next five innings to keep the game in reach for the Herd. Each Buffalo relief pitcher to enter the game recorded a strikeout, keeping the Mets off the bases.

The score remained 5-2 until the final frame, when Buffalo would go to work. A leadoff single by L.J. Talley got the Buffalo rally started, while a pair of walks drawn by Jamie Ritchie and Cameron Eden would load the bases. With the bases loaded, the Mets turned to T.J. McFarland to try and close the door on the Buffalo rally.

After a Davis Schneider flyout, Ernie Clement would step to the plate and deliver the key double that would clear the bases and tie the game at 5-5. With the game-tying double, Clement now has eight RBIs in his last three games for the Herd, all against Syracuse.

With Clement at second base, Horwitz stepped to the plate to try and win the game for Buffalo. After a first pitch called strike, Horwitz would take two balls to bring the count to 2-1 before hitting a game-winning RBI single that scored Clement to finish the comeback for the Herd.

The walk-off win is Buffalo’s third of the season and second of the week, with a Jordan Luplow RBI single giving Buffalo a 10-9 win in extra innings against the Mets on Tuesday. The win is Buffalo’s sixth comeback win of the season and the first time the Herd have come from behind when trailing after the eighth inning this season.

Buffalo and Syracuse will meet in the fourth game of the scheduled six-game series at Sahlen Field tomorrow night, with first pitch at 6:35 pm. Tomorrow’s game is the second Honda fridaynightbash of the season, with fireworks following the conclusion of the game.
