The Buffalo Sabres will pick 13th in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft when it is held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on June 28.

The NHL Draft Lottery was held this evening to determine the order of selection for the first 16 picks, consisting of two drawings among the teams that did not qualify for the postseason. Chicago and Anaheim won and will pick first and second, respectively. 

Buffalo entered the night with the 13th-best odds to win the lottery at 2.0 percent. 

The Sabres have drafted 13th overall on six occasions in franchise history, including the selections of Sabres Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Playfair (1978) and forward Drew Stafford (2004). 

Current NHL players who were selected 13th overall include Carolina forward Seth Jarvis (2021), Montreal forward Nick Suzuki (2017), and Winnipeg defenseman Josh Morrissey (2013).
