LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – A six-run top of the third inning, capped by a Davis Schneider three-run home run, was all the offense the Buffalo Bisons would need in their 9-2 victory over the Gwinnett Stripers on Friday night at Coolray Field.
The Bisons would bat around in the top of the third, sending nine batters to the plate against Dylan Dodd. Cameron Eden led off the inning with a base hit and promptly scored on a Tanner Morris RBI double. Ernie Clement also added an RBI with a base hit in the frame, in addition to a Wynton Bernard RBI double to give him 10 RBIs on the season that extended Buffalo’s lead to 3-0.
Schneider’s three-run home run opened up the Bisons lead to six runs, 6-0, in the inning. The homer was the utilityman’s second of the season, increasing his RBI total to seven on the year as well.
Gwinnett was able to get one run back in the bottom of the fourth inning. The home team took advantage of an error that extended the frame and made the score 9-1. Julian Fernandez was on the mound for his Bisons debut when the run was scored. The righty was credited with the victory in two innings of relief. The run allowed was unearned.
The Herd added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning with back-to-back home runs off of reliever Nick Margevicius. Cameron Eden’s first career Triple-A home run was a two-run shot that ballooned Buffalo’s lead to 8-1. Morris clubbed his first homer of the season one batter later to end the Herd’s scoring, 9-1.
The Stripers’ final run of the night came on a Joe Dunand solo homer in the bottom of the seventh off of Trent Thornton.
The night featured the first Automatic Ball Strike Challenge System game for both teams. Bernard requested the first challenge of the game and was unsuccessful.
Jamie Ritchie challenged three times for Buffalo and was successful twice. Once as catcher and once at the plate as a batter.
The two teams will meet for game five of their six-game series at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday night. Luke Bard is scheduled to make another spot start for the Bisons.
