Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski today said Niagara County will once again honor Purple Heart Veterans by adding their name to county’s Book of Honor at a ceremony to be held on Sunday, August 6.  Jastrzemski said that any Purple Heart Veterans (or their family members) who are not currently in the book need to come forward by May 1 to be included in this year’s ceremony.  There are currently more than 345 Niagara County residents listed in the Book of Honor.

“We are very excited for this year’s Purple Heart event and our continuing efforts to honor Niagara County residents who were wounded or killed fighting for our country,” said Jastrzemski.  “If a family member knows of a Purple Heart veteran who may have passed, we can work with them to complete the necessary form to ensure their loved one’s legacy is preserved in our Purple Heart Book.

To be included in the Book of Honor and to take part in this year’s event, Purple Heart Veterans or their families must complete a short application that can be obtained at https://www.niagaracounty.com/departments/a-f/county_clerk/purple_heart_recipient_list.php

Those with questions can call the Clerk’s Office at 439-7025 or the Veteran’s Service Agency at 438-4090.   Jastrzemski said details for the August 6th event will be forthcoming close to the event.
