DETROIT — After allowing the Detroit Red Wings to tie the game at 6 with under a minute to play in regulation, the Buffalo Sabres went on to win, 7-6 in a shootout, bolstering their playoff hopes.

Dylan Cozens had two goals and an assist and Owen Power had three assists for the Sabres. Tage Thompson, Zemgus Girgensons, Henri Jokiharju and Jordan Greenway also had regulations goals for the Sabres. Alex Tuch and Jack Quinn scored in the shootout for Buffalo.

With the win — the Sabres third in four games — the team moves to 38-32-7 and remain six points behind the New York Islanders and Florida Panthers for a Wild Card spot with five games remaining and two games at hand against both teams.

The Sabres next play the Carolina Hurricanes at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
