The Buffalo Sabres dropped a back-and-forth game to the Montreal Canadiens in a shootout.

Lucas Rousek, JJ Peterka and Riley Stillman scored for the Sabres in the 4-3 loss.

Despite the loss, Buffalo pulled within five points of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.

The Sabres next take on the New York Rangers at 7 p.m. Friday.
