On March 11, 2023, Troopers out of SP Olean arrested John C. Tait, 24 of Olean, NY for Robbery 1st degree (B Felony), Menacing 2nd and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd.

On March 11, 2023, Troopers out of SP Olean responded to a report of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle on North 3rd Street in the village of Allegany.  Investigation determined that Tait took the complainants vehicle.  The complainant observed Tait to be in possession of a semi-automatic handgun when he demanded the keys to his vehicle so he could drive to Buffalo. Tait was later located and arrested. The .380 pistol was located in the stolen vehicle. Tait was transported to SP Olean and processed and arraigned in the town of Ellicottville Court. Tait was remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $25k cash/$50k bond/$75 secured bond. An Order of Protection was Issued and provided to the victim.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Cattaraugus County District Attorney’s Office assisted in this investigation.
