LOCKPORT — Two people have been charged in the past month over a two-year-old child found unresponsive after having ingested Fentanyl in April of 2022.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, on April 25, their communications center received a 9-1-1 call reporting an unresponsive two-year-old male.

Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with South Lockport Fire Company and Rapids Volunteer Fire Company responded. The child was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital and the criminal investigation was turned over to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau. An investigation into the home, parents, and circumstances of the two-year-old’s cardiac arrest determined that the child ingested Fentanyl. The child is receiving treatment and recovering.

On December 15th, 2022, Jaynalyn Smith, 20yof, was arrested on one count of Assault 1st and one count of Assault 2nd. She was remanded to the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $100,000.00.

On January 9th, 2023, Dustin Houghton, 23yom, was arrested on one count of Assault 2nd and was released on $5000.00 bail.
