Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced the passage of S. 894 the Hire Veteran Health Heroes Act of 2021 and H.R. 147 the BRAVE Act. The pair of bills will help connect veterans leaving active service to employment opportunities, including medical positions at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and apprenticeships nationwide.
“Veterans returning home after sacrificing everything to serve deserve employment opportunities that complement their strengths and utilize the skills gained through military service,” said Congressman Higgins. “These bills provide veterans with guidance and tools to begin their civilian careers and deliver proven leaders to industries in need of skilled workers.”
S. 894, the Hire Veteran Health Heroes Act of 2021 works to connect medically trained veterans leaving the armed forces to vacant medical positions within the VA. Following adoption by the House of Representatives, this bill was signed by the President and is now law.
H.R. 147, the Bringing Registered Apprenticeships to Veterans Education (BRAVE) Act educates veterans about registered apprenticeship opportunities and provides information online about apprenticeship programs eligible for VA education benefits. This bill is currently before the Senate for consideration and approval.
Previously, during Veteran Small Business Week, Higgins announced approval of a bill that authorized and supported the Boots to Business Program, a two-day training course aimed at helping veterans and their spouses prepare for business ownership.
