NEW YORK, NY — In response to the postmaster general’s latest statement about suspending operational changes until after the 2020 election, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issued the following:

“The postmaster general’s latest statement leaves too many important questions unanswered about protecting the sanctity of our voting system this November. These operational changes should have never have happened in the first place, and they must now be reversed.

“Compromising critical mail service for veterans, small business owners, rural communities, and millions of New Yorkers who rely on the mail is unacceptable, nor is maintaining the status quo for what’s become an increasingly clearer need to protect the United States Postal Service. Not only must Postmaster DeJoy testify in front of Congress, we must pass the Postal Banking Act to strengthen this institution as old as this nation’s founding.”
