PRESS RELEASE

Congressman Brian Higgins is pleased to announce over $500,000 for Federally Qualified Health Centers in Western New York.  Three grants provided through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, for $167,000 each, are being awarded to Jericho Road, the Northwest Buffalo Community Health Care Center and the Community Health Center of Buffalo.

The grants were awarded during National Health Center Week, celebrated August 4-10, 2019.  The week is dedicated to raising awareness and celebrating the accomplishments of America’s health centers. According to the National Association of Community Health Centers, community health centers provide over 28 million underserved patients with access to both primary and preventative care.

Higgins said, “Health Centers have proven to be an effective way to deliver individualized care, taking a big-picture approach to keeping families and communities healthy.  The additional resources will further enhance the incredible work these facilities do to the benefit of countless individuals across WNY.”

Federally Qualified Health Centers provide comprehensive, quality health care to underserved communities, saving $24 billion annually by helping patients avoid costly emergency room visits and hospitalizations by providing preventive care.
