STAFF REPORTS

The Rochester Red Wings’ offense was in high gear for the second straight night, racking up 19 hits in a 10-5 win over the Norfolk Tides Wednesday night at Frontier Field. Nick Gordon, Wilin Rosario, Jimmy Kerrigan, and Alejandro De Aza had three hits each for Rochester, one night after their 22-hit, 16-3 victory over the Tides. Wings starter Drew Hutchison fanned nine in 5.0 innings Wednesday. The series continues with an 11:05 a.m. game Thursday morning.

Drew Hutchison took the mound for Rochester and got out of an early bases-loaded jam in the top of the first inning, striking out Rochester native and Aquinas graduate Christopher Bostick with two outs.
Facing Norfolk’s Chandler Shepherd, Tomas Telis delivered the Wings’ third two-out hit of the first inning to score Jaylin Davis and put Rochester up 1-0. This added to Davis’ International League best 34 runs scored since June 24.
RBI singles by Drew Maggi, Nick Gordon, and Wilin Rosario improved Rochester’s lead 4-0 after two innings. Gordon’s hit up the middle increased his already impressive .375 batting average with RISP entering today.
The Wings continued to pour it on in the bottom of the third with four more runs. Wynston Sawyersingled to left, scoring Torreyes and Jimmy Kerrigan’s hard hit through the left side of the infield scored Alejandro De Aza. After Kerrigan’s single, all nine Wings hitters had recorded a hit. An error by the Tides and another Rosario single added two more runs and made the score 8-0.
Hutchison continued to dominate Norfolk hitters, recording his seventh and eighth strikeouts in the fourth inning.
Playing on rehab with the Tides, Mark Trumbo crushed a two-run home run in the fifth inning to cut into his team’s deficit. Hometown hero Bostick redeemed his earlier strikeout with an opposite field RBI ground-rule double to slim the lead 8-3.
Hutchison was relieved after 5.0 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk. He threw 92 pitches, 56 of which were strikes and recorded nine strikeouts to add to his International League fourth place mark of 96 K’s entering today’s game.
Norfolk’s Shepherd also concluded his night having pitched 5.0 innings. He gave up eight runs, six of which were earned on 13 hits, two walks, seven strikeouts, and 101 pitches, 56 for strikes.
Kerrigan led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a homer down the left field line. Davis added another run, scoring Gordon with his line drive into the gap in right-center field. The runs pushed the Wings’ lead to 10-3.
Norfolk added two runs on two hits and a walk in the eighth inning to bring the score to 10-5.
Pitching in relief, Fernando Romero put down the first six batters he faced, striking out four. A tremendous Torreyes diving play and throw from his knees helped Romero’s cause in the seventh inning.
Romero was relieved by Ian Krol having pitched 3.0 innings and allowing two runs on two hits and four strikeouts.
Krol allowed a single in the ninth inning, but struck-out three Norfolk hitters to finish the game.
