MACHIAS — A 51-year-old Machias woman was charged on Sunday with DWI and refusal to take a breath test following an incident on North Junction Road.

According to New York State Police, while investigating a report of a vehicle striking ducks on North Junction Road in the town of Machias, Julie A. Holland, identified as the driver, was exhibiting obvious signs of intoxication. Troopers determined she had been operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition. She refused to perform standardized field sobriety tests at the scene. Holland was then arrested and transported to SP Machias, where she refused a chemical breath test.

Holland was arraigned in Machias Town Court, where she was released on her own recognizance. She is due to reappear in that court later this month.
