STAFF REPORTS

The International League today announced that Buffalo Bisons RHP Justin Shafer has been selected to the 2019 International League All-Star Team. Shafer will join Bisons manager Bobby Meacham to represent the Herd at the 32nd Annual Triple-A All-Star Game to be played on Wednesday, July 10 at Southwest University Park in El Paso, TX (7:05 p.m. MT).
The game will be broadcast live on the MLB Network and heard on the radio home for Bisons baseball, ESPN 1520 AM.
Shafer has posted an impressive 1.75 ERA in 20 outings for the Bisons this season. In 25.2 innings of work, the righty has struck out 29 batters to only 18 hits allowed and six walks, holding opponents to a .194 batting average. He also leads the Herd bullpen with six saves and 15 games finished. Shafer has been especially tough with runners in scoring position, allowing just three hits and zero extra-base hits in 31 plate appearances while the other team is threatening.

Shafer, an 8th round pick of the Blue Jays in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, was 3-3 with a 1.41 ERA and a team-high 15 saves in 34 appearances for the Bisons in 2018. He also made his big league debut last year, posting a 3.24 ERA in six appearances with the Blue Jays.
