FRIENDSHIP — A 29-year-old Friendship man was charged Wednesday with numerous crimes after police say he stole a dog “as leverage in a civil matter.”

New York State Police charged Zakary S. Cobb with criminal possession of stolen property, coercion, and aggravated cruelty to animals following an investigation of a report of a missing dog revealed a months-long dispute between Cobb and his former employer. Troopers discovered Cobb had taken the dog, which was later found dead.

Cobb was arrested and arraigned in Wirt Town Court and released on his own recognizance. He is due to appear in Genesee Town Court later this month.
