PRESS RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC – Today legislation sponsored by Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) to rename the U.S. Post Office in Dansville, New York after Staff Sergeant Alexandria Gleason-Morrow officially became law. SSgt Gleason-Morrow was a Dansville native who was killed in the line of duty March 22, 2017 while serving in Jordan.

“I am honored that President Trump signed this piece of legislation honoring Staff Sergeant Gleason-Morrow,” said Congressman Collins. “Staff Sergeant Gleason-Morrow was a true American hero that represented the very best of the Dansville community. Renaming this post office after her stands as a lasting tribute to her bravery, heroism and sacrifice for our country.”

SSgt. Gleason-Morrow enlisted into the United States Air Force after graduating from Dansville Senior High School.  She attended the Air Force’s Aircraft Armament Technical School after basic training, and was assigned to the 366th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.  SSgt. Gleason-Morrow was deployed to Jordan during the Operation Inherent Resolve, and died from non-combat related injuries while performing maintenance duties on a fighter aircraft.

“Alexandria Mae Gleason-Morrow was a great American that loved her country and put her life on the line to defend us all,” said Stephanie Gleason, mother of SSgt Gleason-Morrow. “She was a top notch airwoman that gave her all, and never accepted anything but perfection. She taught those around her to become the best person they could possibly be. Alex was the best daughter, granddaughter, sister, mother, wife and friend to us all.”

Gleason added: “To say I feel a little overwhelmed is an understatement. To know that so many people still remember Alex and care about our family is heartwarming. All I can say is thank you – this honor has truly made our Christmas and New Year brighter.”

SSgt Gleason was posthumously honored by her comrades when she was named the first Senior Airman team chief for the 389th “Thunderbolts” Aircraft Unit, a subdivision of the 366th Squadron.

SSgt Gleason-Morrow is survived by her mother, Stephanie Gleason, four siblings, two beautiful daughters, and her husband.

The Collins legislation renames the U.S. postal facility located at 116 Main Street in Dansville, the “Staff Sergeant Alexandria Gleason-Morrow Post Office.”
