BUFFALO, N.Y. — Canisius goaltender Daniel Urbani has been named to the watch list for the 2019 Mike Richter Award, which annually honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I men’s hockey,

Candidates for the Mike Richter Award will be determined by nominations from all 60 NCAA Division I men’s hockey head coaches. The semifinalists, finalists and winner are selected by a committee of coaches, scouts and members of the media. The winner of the sixth annual award will be announced at the 2019 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four, which will be held April 11 & 13 at KeyBank Center in downtown Buffalo.
A native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Urbani started all 33 games played during the 2017-18 season, including the final 19 games of the campaign. He posted a 2.74 goals against average and .918 save percentage in 1,926 minutes played.
Urbani recorded 30 or more saves on 17 occasions last season, highlighted by a season-high 44 stops in game two of the Golden Griffins’ Atlantic Hockey Championship quarterfinal round series against AIC. He finished the 2017-18 season in third place on program’s single-season wins chart with 17.
Canisius hosts Toronto in a 4:35 p.m. exhibition contest Saturday at KeyBank Rink at Harborcenter before opening the regular season Oct. 12-13 at Atlantic Hockey Association foe Holy Cross.
