4.  Letter: New York must heed alarm on climate change threat, by Charley Bowman
The time to act is now! Congressman Higgins recently became a co-sponsor of a bill sporting a very aggressive time table for a transition to renewable energy in the electricity generation and transportation sectors.

5. Shipments of Crude Oil (Tar Sands Oil + some Bakken crude) from Canada by Rail is at an all time high: 6.4 million bbls/month
Some of this is going through Upstate NY risking life and environment, while distant corporations profit.

7. Nuclear energy never solved the spent fuel problem.  Now the fracking industry is struggling with their waste water problem. Solution: lets stop the extractive energy industry. Anyway, here is a great article by Albany based Justin Mikulka:
